Here at Galileo we pride ourselves on offering a different type of hostel experience. With both owners and staff living on site, we are committed to offering all of the benefits of a hostel while welcoming you into our home.

After taking over one year ago Brian and Mer have taken the place in great new directions. With the arrival of the Rugged Pineapple Bar, a new puppy, a budding resource library, and plans for expansion, the hostel has truly transformed into something great over the last 12 months.

With all of our expansion we maintain that a trip to San Jose shouldn't break a traveler's budget, that's why we've always offered the most economical option for backpacking in San Jose, Costa Rica. After all, it's our CHEAP BEER, FREE coffee and tea, and the CHEAPEST BEDS IN SAN JOSE that helped us make our name! Unfortunately, we need to keep up with the rising costs of energy and overall operation. That is why, with a heavy heart and a free shot upon your return to anyone who stayed here prior to December 1st, 2009, we have been forced to increase our rates. BUT we are still committed to being your budget option for San Jose, and we will be keeping a separate dorm on a first come first served basis at the original GALILEO ONLY - NINE DOLLAR PRICE. Please understand we are doing everything we can to keep Galileo the most affordable and most enjoyable option for you in San Jose, still with FREE internet/wifi, FREE coffee & tea all day long, FREE book exchange, FREE city maps, FREE resource library, and a wealth of FREE JOKES!

We've also released a series of promotional items including Coasters, Stickers, and NEW DISCOUNTS (but don't worry, our famous, "Joke" discount is still going strong!) to help keep Galileo your favorite, and most affordable option in San Jose! We've sent them out throughout the Americas so keep an eye out for them!! Each one's a winner!
