In Costa Rica, street names and building numbers are practically non-existent, so we use landmarks as reference points. Our local landmark is Soda Tapia, La Sabana.
Public Transportation
FROM AIRPORT BY BUS (around $1)
From the terminal exit and turn left, follow the sidewalk around the parking garage about 200 mts. There will be several bus stops along the side of the street. Ask for the one to San Jose or La Sabana.
FROM DOWNTOWN BY BUS (around $.50)
From the Coca Cola bus terminal take any of the buses marked "Sabana Cementerio" or "Sabana Estadio" (usually yellow), the bus stops across the street from the hostel.
From the center of the city the bus stop is one block away from the Casino Colonial. Ask anyone on the street for the Casino and they will be able to direct you.
FROM AIRPORT BY TAXI ($20)
Directions in San Jose are typically given in terms of landmarks. Please tell your taxi driver: San Jose, Sabana Este, 100m east of Soda Tapia.
NOTE: If coming from the airport, we recommend that you take one of the ORANGE taxis at the airport. Many taxi drivers will try to take you to another hotel to earn a large commission. If your taxi driver attempts to tell you that we are full or tries to take you somewhere else politely tell them you have a reservation or request another taxi.
